London in the 60's was full of excitement and fun...soldiers from Canada, America and Australia had left their marks as did the onslaught of homogenized chemicalized food and coca cola from the USA. Decline of a once glorious nation and all leading to the New Jerusalem..

London in the 60's

The sixties was a time of fun
Excitement filled the streets
London
mecca for all sorts
Jazz, clothes and food and so much more
shopped for Mary Quant and others of her ilk
Gorgeous clothes linen and silk
Pill box hat perched over one eye
A veil hiding me from view

but they all knew that it was me

Pleasures of London....

Coffee shops galore and artists too
Gathered to talk dispute change views
Debate on every subject known to man
And some never dreamed about for sure
Nighclubs where we did drink all night
And dance the heavenly hours away
No cops to stop us on our way home
Better things had they to do
(like crime)

The Lone Ranger

Vidal Sasson my hair did trim in fabled Bond Street
Pedicures manicures and all the rest
To keep me looking at my best

Modelling sweaters was my game
My limited time of dubious fame
They called me the lone ranger then
For always as now I was alone
Preferring my company to them

British Air force

war scarred town it was those days
German V1's bombs had left their marks
On buildings homes and many parks

But we cared not

The war was won and we could cheer
Americans Australians Canadians all

Who visited our war torn shores
And helped keep Nazi planes at bay
Although our Air force had won the day
For Britain

Addictions...from the good old US of A

Not much to eat there was for sure
Rationing still a bloody way
No fruit no crisps not much at all
But cared we less for we were free
This long before what is today

Gradually though all things did change
On pavements  parking meters rose
And wondered what the hell were those
Street after street they did impose

And in our shops foods did appear
American brands they were

Not contaminated yet with GMO's
Monsanto's poisonous chemicals to fear

A drink called Coca Cola hit the stores
We did not know its content then

Of coke cocaine an additive
Addictive in so many ways

Just as it is today

A power play of greed
another from America's shores

The Decline...

And now that country once so bright
Destroys itself from inside out
Power greed and money made their claim
As once a wise Indian engineer did say to me
Happen it would and soon

Just like most empires come and go
Destroyed by those who do not know
To care and share and bring about
The new Jerusalem

and it will be

Total changed from style to style to and your writing also diverse! We have little or less information about those old ages in the West, as the communication was not that smooth. Interesting to read and look at! Thank you cnwriter.

Great promise of a future being blown away by our callousness. After winning a war, maybe through the skin of the teeth, the free world takes much for granted! Thanks for a thought provoking recall of times both good and some bad, Carolina! siva

An excellent trip down the memory lane. Yes, Great Britan which once ruled more than half the world has now gone into bad times. I don't think you can get those good times again.
So you were a lone ranger, were you?
Excellent work.

Think Shylock forgot and cut the pound of flesh and had blood loss along with it.
None the less the UK is a great place for education and mannerisms. Creativity starts in the USA but the market is more European. You have the widest fan base out there along with the USA although the former is more receptive to everything including technology which comes with freebies.

The sixties were great, my uncle was there too and he said he loved it and till date he shows us the various facets of the life out there although he does say it has dramatically changed.
He prefers Canada now....

Thank you for that CN. This is something I have studied on for a while. After WWII things begin to change with all that's left of truth are those who experienced it or throught music.
